The tripod acts as the anchorage point for most typical rescue systems. Tripods are used for lifting and lowering materials and personnel via the hoist/winch, while having the ability to use an SRL in conjunction with the rest of the system for fall arrest and emergency evacuation. Tripods have a wide foot print that makes this a very stable anchor and attachment point above the access area.

When access and egress to a confined space includes the potential for falls, then it can be considered as work at height. Safe access and egress from confined spaces requires careful planning. In all cases rescue and recovery must be planned and the personnel be trained in emergency procedures.
